5 Ways To Up Your Instagram Game!

I asked you all on twitter what post you would be most interested in seeing and this topic got the most votes by far! I totally understand why, as it is something that is getting harder to accomplish with recent changes to the app, BUT I am here to tell you there are definitely many ways to help you grow an organic and loyal following!

Interact With Others
This works with interacting on your own photos and on others photos. I find this a great way to boost engagement as it is more likely for others to check out your profile if they see you are interactive. I would say you should only follow people who are interesting to you or in your niche and if you enjoy their content. Finding others with similar interests (i.e bloggers) and commenting/liking their photos is a great way to gain organic, loyal followers. In the same way, you should also reply to comments on your pictures, set aside a few minutes to reply to your followers who have taken the time to comment on yours!

Hashtag
You can use 30 Hashtags per post, so why not utilise them?! I normally bullet point break my caption and put the hashtag in the bottom so Instagram hides them until you click ‘read more’, otherwise it can sometimes seem spammy. You can also include the hashtags in your comments, so they are more hidden. Hashtag things that are relevant to your post/insta. I find it is sometimes better to use hashtags that have less posts on them than ones with millions. Eg. A hashtag that has 2 million posts means your post will unlikely be seen by many before disappearing to the bottom, one with say 20,000-200,000 gives a much better chance of your post staying at the top for a while for potential new follows to see and check out.

(Example: If you use the bullet points after your caption, you can't see the hashtags unless you click more)

Be Consistent
By this I don’t mean ‘post everyday at the same time or people will unfollow you’; this means that whether you like to post once a day or once a week, that is totally fine, just be consistent with it! Personally, I post at least once every day, but that doesn’t mean you have to, that just works for me. Post when you want, but make sure not to leave huge gaps in between photos as some people might view a page that hasn't posted in over a month as being inactive and may unfollow.

Join An Instagram Pod
This may be somewhat controversial, however I feel that the pods have great benefits. I would suggest only becoming a member to a pod you are interested in or one that is in your niche. This is a great way for others to see your posts that may not have before due to Instagram’s algorithm. Be yourself, comment a thoughtful comment, do not spam anyone and others in the pod will also do the same. It’s a great way for other people like you to find and interact with your blog that may not have found you otherwise.

Use Instagram Stories
I never really knew how to use these at the start, but they are a great way to keep people updated on what you are up to, but also remind them that you are still there if you have not posted a picture for a while. People are likely to click on your profile after watching your story and interact with you. You can also interact with your followers such as asking them a question in your story that needs a response.

Lastly, be yourself and follow others whose content you enjoy. Don’t follow/unfollow, this is not a loyal organic way to build your followers, and often results in more unfollowers.

  1. I try and follow as many of these tips as I can but honestly Instagram just baffles me lately, a while ago I was barely posting at all and gaining followers but now I'm posting regularly and have less followers! I swear it's so confusing since all of the algorithm changes.

  3. I love Instagram but when they keep changing things it makes it hard, especially now alot of the beauty related hashtags aren't working. I love to interact with people on there.

  4. Great tips for Instagram, though it can be difficult to gain engagement as the algorithm is so confused, but the pods are very beneficial.
